Weekend Backpack Program
Every Friday during the school year, these food bags are delivered to the schools in the School District of Holmen, allowing students to take them home for the weekend.
Goal
The program’s goal is to ensure food security for students who may not have consistent access to meals outside of school. Each bag of food contains enough for multiple meals, including breakfast items, a couple lunch or dinner options, fruit and vegetable cups, and snacks.
Eligibility
Families in need are identified through the School District of Holmen, ensuring that support is provided to those who need it most in a respectful and confidential manner.
If your family qualifies for free/reduced lunches through the school district, or if you know of a family that does, please reach out to your school counselor. Even if your family is in a temporary need of support, we would love to help in this way.

– Easy open canned ravioli/Spaghetti O’s/soup/beef stew
– fruit/applesauce cups
– veggie cups
– granola bars
– breakfast bars
– oatmeal packets
– cereal cups
– crackers w/cheese
– crackers w/peanut butter
– microwavable popcorn
– personal hygiene items
Donations can be dropped off at our donation location at Coulee Life Church next to Sand Lake Elementary (N5761 County Road SN, Onalaska, WI 54650)
Where we began
Holmen’s Hope launched the Weekend Backpack Program in the fall of 2016, starting with Sand Lake Elementary. Shortly after, the program expanded to include all elementary schools and the middle school within the School District of Holmen.
In the 2024/25 school year we delivered 1708 bags of food for students.
